New Zealand pop sensation Lorde turned heads at the Met Gala as she strutted the red carpet in a very revealing ensemble on Sunday night.

Going braless for the occasion, the 24-year-old (born Ella Yelich-O’Connor) wore an intricate two-piece outfit by Bode which featured a jewel-covered cream jacket and matching wrap skirt.

The top revealed a generous glimpse of torso, as it was held together with a small piece of embellished satin.

At times, Lorde lifted up her skirt’s majestic, long train to display its expert beadwork.

The Solar Power singer topped off her look with a red-and-white tassel-covered evening bag and a flamboyant, fireworks-inspired headpiece.

For makeup, the Royals singer kept things simple with a subtle swipe of pink blush, gold eye shadow and nude lip gloss.

Her jewellery was similarly understated, consisting of a simple pair of gold drop earrings and simple gold rings.

Opting for comfort over height, the brunette also wore a pair of sensible white flats rather than heels for her sashay down the coveted carpet.

Lorde’s ensemble was a nod to the theme of this year’s Met Gala, ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’.

Speaking to Keke Palmer on the red carpet, Lorde revealed that her ensemble was crafted from ‘repurposed antiques’.

‘This feels more like the America that we know. To see all these beautiful people, all the new people going through, it’s the best,’ she said.

The Green Light singer’s appearance at the event comes after she recently posed for Vogue Magazine New Zealand.

In the interview which accompanied the stunning photoshoot, the talented songwriter shared her discomfort with ‘the pop star life.’

‘I’m great at my job, but I’m not sure I’m the man for the job,’ she mused. ‘I’m a highly sensitive person. I’m not built for pop star life.

‘To have a public-facing existence is something I find really intense and is something I’m not good at,’ she admitted. ‘That natural charisma is not what I have. I have the brain in the jar.’

Lorde’s newest album, Solar Power is her first project to be recorded in the Māori language and it’s out now.
