Xixi Liu and Allen Fu who launched CheekyGlo are now on track to make $1MILLION in sales 💥👩💥

A commerce graduate has gone from running a business out of a garage to building a $1million self-care brand selling exfoliating gloves.

Xixi Liu, from Sydney, launched CheekyGlo for just $1,500 in October 2020 after she was inspired by the traditional bathing rituals in Asia.

The 27-year-old started working on the brand with her entrepreneur friend Allen Fu, 26, from his garage with nothing but a laptop and a label printer.

Fast forward less than one year, the pair of best friends are now set to hit the $1million mark in just a matter of days.

The first few days of business was ‘slow’ but after posting a viral TikTok video about their gloves, the duo made $20,000 in the first four weeks.

‘It went absolutely viral. We sold out in a few days and the orders kept coming,’ Allen said. And within four months, they made $100,000 in sales.

Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength – and particularly during the global Covid-19 pandemic, when many have prioritised self care at home.

The brand has sold over 20,000 gloves to 16,000 customers across 49 countries.

‘This means that people all over the world are seeing the benefits of my culture and tradition, it’s incredibly rewarding,’ Xixi said.

Xixi – who suffers from dry skin, keratosis pilaris and ingrown hairs – said she noticed an improvement with her skin after using the glove on herself.

‘The glove is a great natural alternative that doesn’t require any extra products to work – all you need to do is scrub your skin after soaking it in the shower,’ she said.

‘The unique fabric texture catches on to dead skin and dirt, rather than relying on harsh chemicals and beads.

‘The gloves create a visible skin peeling that gives customers instant satisfaction knowing that the product works naturally to remove all the impurities on their skin.’

Her idea stemmed from her childhood after growing up in Northern China where people would go to bathhouses and get full body scrubs with these types of gloves.

Despite using the mitts for most of her life, Xixi said she struggled to find any product in Australia that ‘comes close to rivalling the effectiveness’ of the glove.

‘I told Allen about the glove in a random conversation, so he tried it too and was amazed,’ she said.

Nearly 12 months on, the pair are hoping their business will become a global household brand in the near future.

‘We want to continue to grow our product line and make skincare products that are as natural as possible, and actually work,’ Xixi said.
